Pages 174-202 (the end)

Steve moved to San Deigo with his mom and called Dub almost every night. She was very short with him and pretty mean also. This upset Steve so much and he eventually got permition from his mom to go to Houston and see her. During his time there he sees her cheating on him with their teacher Sky and it breaks his heart. After I read this part I was so angry and I actually wanted to punch Dub in the face a little. Steve also goes to his fathers wedding and they become a lot closer and he learns that his mother cheated on his father also and he repects his father a lot more now. He also likes his new step mom and he is very happy with Allison still. They both go off to college and Steve isn't mad he says but he is content. He learned to not care about what happened in the past with Dub and focus on the future with his family and school. This book was one of the best books I have ever read and I recommend people to read it. I could probably read it ten more times and not get bored.

Pages 158-174

Dub and Steve take this new course at school with a teacher they call Skye. This class is very different from most classes and it is very enjoyable. All the students are given names that describe themselves. They are given an assignment to write in one sentence their summer. That night Dub and Steve go to Doug's band's concert and Doug doesn't really talk to Steve. Then, one day Steve gets a call from his father's work saying he needs to get to his presentation. When Steve walks into his bedroom to tell his father, he finds his dad and a woman in bed messing around. After that, he brings home his dads girlfriend and it is pretty awkward. To make it even better she finds an unopen condomn in his car.

Pages 144-158

In San Diego, Steve starts getting accepted to all his colleges he applied to including Harvard. When he finds out Allison didn't get accepted he realized the only reason he was was because of his father's fame. In Houston Steve goes to San Diego for a while to see his mom but comes back to Houston to visit Dub. During this trip back they have sexual intercourse and both of them feel like they are now more matured and their relationship is at another level. Dub does though feel a little sad she says like she is growing up to fast. Steve then starts his job again at the movie theatre and gets a promotion. He also decided to call Doug one night but Doug makes it known that he is mad at Steve for spending all of his time with Dub and the call ends. I believe Steve needed to put his friends first becuase now he is starting to lose all of them.

Pages 136-144

In San Diego, Sarah and her boyfriend Danny double date with Steve and Dub often. While they were all at Steves house one day, him and Sarah get into a loud argument about their father and mother and it makes Dub and Danny feel pretty uncomfortable. Their were things that Sarah said that Steve had never heard before. It was a shock to him. In Houston, during the summer many of the GOD members decide to go to a house and spend some nights there alone. They drink, play football and of course Dub and Steve makeout a lot. They also talk about sexual intercourse but never do. I think that their relationship is moving quicker than it should and they are getting caught up in a crush. One day Steve talks to some friends who havea graduated and are dating and will be attending different colleges. They she tells Steve that her ad her boyfriend decided to break up and this doesn't make sense to him. I believe he's at that stage in a relationship where he believes him and Dub will be together forever.

Pages 126-132

In San Diego, Steve starts to realize he does not want to associate with the pot heads and underachievers. In Houston, when Steve returns home after the holiday Dub picks him up at the airport. Their relationship starts moving quickly and they are becoming closer and doing many new things together. They start to become more intimate and this is very new to the both of them. As they  are in Steves room alone, his father comes home and he tells Steve he doesn't want girls in his room. In San Diego, Steve starts to date Allison and she tells him that her mother and brother were killed in an accident when she was little and her father has been depressed ever since. This I believe shows Steve that no matter what people go through, when a person has goals in life, they can achieve anything and Allison is an example of that.

Pages 112-126

In Houston, GOD decides to be apart of the talent show. They make a movie and because the movie is very inappropriate the principle tells them that GOD cannot be a group at school anymore unless they have an adult supervisor. In San Diego Steve asks Allison to go to the concert with her and she says yes. Sarah introduces her boyfriend the night of the concert and by first glance he doesn't look like a good kid. Steve eventually starts talking to him and realizes he really is. When they go to pick up Allison, Steve notices her father inside not paying attention that is daughter is leaving and paying more attention to televsion. Then in Houston, Steve tells Dub one night that he loves her and Dub is very shocked by it and doesn't exactly have a response. I think that Steve thinks he loves her but really doesn't. He is just caught up in a teenage crush.

Houston, sophmore year and San Diego, senior year (pg 105-111)

Steve and Dub start to become very close and he meets her parents and spends much of his time there. His father suspects he has a girlfriend although Steve has not mentioned her. In San Diego, Steve finds out he is a National Merit finalist which is a huge academic achievement. Then his father calls him asking for Steve to be his best man at his wedding. Steve doesn't know what to say so he tells his father he will try to make it but in reality Steve really doesn't want to go. I think Steve should go because it is really an honor that his father asked and I believe it's a sign that he does want to become more close to Steve. Back in Houston Steve and Dub become an official couple and everyone knows about it, including teachers. In San Diego, Sarah tells Steve that he  will be coming to the concert with her because it would make her mother more comfortable if he went. This I believe was a good idea on their mothers part and it also makes both children happy.

Sarah and Steve both get a letter saying that their father, Alan York or the astronaut, is getting married. In Houston when Steve brings Dub home after the dance he walks her to the door and they kiss. This really makes Steve like her and its a very typical teenage crush that most people experience. The day after the dance, Steve and Dub go to a beach by themselves and makeout for a long time. This part of the story is showing how close they are becoming and how fast their relationship is maturing. Back in San Diego, Steve tells his mother that he does not want to attend his fathers wedding and she is very shocked by this. I think that although his father isn't making the best effort to becoming close with his son, Steve should go simply because it's his father and its a respectful thing to do.

Houston, sophmore year and San Diego, senior year (pg 83-97)

This chapter in the story explains how Steve resents his father for being as accomplished as he is. Steve plans his day according to the times his father will be home just so that he doesn't have to see him. His father, which Steve refers to him as the astronaut, doesn't make an effort to start a conversation with him either. Their relationship is very strained and I believe Steve's parents divorce and his father not being the best father figure has an effect on his school life and his decision. In San Diego, Steve gets his mother to agree to let Sarah go to the concert. Then back aat Houston, Steve and Dub go to the dance and in the beginning he wasn't all about dancing. Toward the end he slow danced with Dub and couldn't believed how much he loved to hold Dub and feel his hands on her back. After this dance they become very close and go back to their table holding hands and really enjoying eachothers company. I think this is forshadowing in the story that Dub and Steve are going to have a very strong and long relationship.

Sarah, Steve's little sister, askes her mother if she can attend a rock concert with some of her friends. They would be staying in a hotel after she explains but she will not be drinking although her friends might be. Steve stays out of the little argument her and her mother get into when she tells Sarah no and Sarah gets so upset and lashes out of the room. If I was her mother I wouldn't have let her gone either because she is still very young and irresponsible. Then as the story goes back to Steve being in Houston his sophmore year, we find out that Steve is very nervous for the dance. He realizes its his first real date and he doesn't want to mess it up. This shows how much he is starting to like Dub.

Houston, Sophmore year (page 69-77)

All the members of GOD meet so they can start taking apart their float that they made. Everyone starts to drink and then Dub says that she really wants to go to the dance that is coming up. This is a surprise to everyone and she says she wants to know what it feels like to get dressed up and get a corsage and go to a dance. Steve gets kicked a few times by another club member but he doesn't take the hint to ask her. Eventually Doug gets so intoxicated that he can barely stand up straight so Steve and Dub decide to take him home. Dougs older brother meets them outside to take Doug which leaves Steve and Dub alone for a bit. Steve asks Dub to go to the dance with him and she says yes. The car ride home for them is a bit awkward but both of them are very excited.

Houston, Sophmore year (pages 66-69)

The members of the group GOD, which is the club Doug and Steve created, just got told that they won most original for the float they made. As they are celebrating Steve gets so excited and he hugs Dub and this really makes him happy and shows him how much he likes her. After this chapter it goes back to talking about Steve's life present day, which is him in his senior year living in San Diego. Steve starts drinking at school then tries to go into the principles office when he notices Allison, a girl who he thinks is pretty, is in there talking to the principle about college. He immediately leaves the school because he is starting to realize that he actually does care about school and his academics.

Houston, Sophmore year (pages 54-66)

In the beginning of this, "chapter," Steve admitts to being in love with Dub. Dub asks Doug on a date though which really irritates Steve and they go to the theatre that Steve works at. When they show up, Steve is relieved to see that Dub and Doug were with  group of people. During the movie Rhonda comes up to the projectors booth where Steve is and she tried again to kiss him. This time Steve turns away and tells her he doesnt want to kiss her. That really angered Rhonda. Then the story starts talking about Steve and his present life, him not writing his 100 page paper, and he gets a letter from Doug. Doug says that he is happy and in a band but Steve does not write back right away. These pages are some of my favorite because it reminds me so much of high school and jealousy within teenagers and the story is very relatable to readers such as myself.

Beginning of the Story

This story is starting to remind me a lot of Mechanicville High School. The main character is a boy named Steve York who used to have a 4.0 GPA but slowly started to loss interest in school. He became a pot head and lets his grades slip tremendously. His principle gives him the option to write a one hundred page paper on whatever he wants and he would pass Steve. This story is told in the point of view on Steve who is writing his paper and Steve's life that is happening in the present. Then Steve and his best friend Doug decide to make a a school group which anyone can be a part of. Steve eventually starts to like a girl who becomes a part of this group and her name is Dub. Dub's best friend Rhonda starts hitting on Steve though and one night when they were both drunk Rhonda started to kiss his and that was Steve's first kiss.
